The Japanese Foreign Ministry's reports on emigration translated an article from a São Paulo newspaper and passed it on.
The Kasato Maru, carrying the first Japanese emigrants, has arrived in the state of São Paulo.
After leaving the port of Kobe, the ship called at only two places, Singapore and Cape Town.
And after "a voyage of fifty-two days," it arrived safely at the port of Santos.
The emigrants numbered 781.
They were the first group of the three thousand families the Kokoku Emigration Company had contracted with the state government of São Paulo.
The 781 were made up of 164 families, it said.

Os relatórios sobre emigração do Ministério das Relações Exteriores do Japão traduziram um artigo de um jornal de São Paulo e o transmitiram assim.
