Heusken's grave is a rectangular stone with a roof-shaped cap in the karahafu style.
Its inscription reads, in English, "SACRED to the Memory of HENRY C. J. HEUSKEN."
And, "DIED AT YEDO, January 16, 1861."
Rutherford Alcock, the British Minister, wrote about the day of the burial.
The place, he wrote, was the same he had chosen a year before, when his interpreter was killed at the gate of the legation.
Beside the newly closed grave, he wrote, stood a plain tablet in Roman letters.
It read: "Dankirche, Japanese linguist to the British Legation, murdered by Japanese assassins on January 21, 1860."

The place of interment was the same I had selected just one year before, when my linguist was slain at the gate of the Legation.
By the side of the newly-closed grave was a plain tablet, distinguished from all the rest by its Roman characters, 'Dankirche, Japanese linguist to the British Legation, murdered by Japanese assassins on January 21, 1860 ;' and this was January 18, 1861, when another Legation had furnished its annual victim
