安政六年（1859年）四月朔日、オランダの船が品川の沖に着き、その使節は、この高輪の東禅寺に泊まりました。
『武江年表』という記録は、これを、オランダの船が江戸へ来た始めだと書いています。
On the first day of the fourth month of the sixth year of Ansei (1859), a Dutch ship arrived off Shinagawa, and its envoy stayed here, at Tozenji Temple in Takanawa.
A Japanese chronicle, the Buko Nenpyo, writes that this was the first time a Dutch ship came to Edo.
『武江年表』の言葉は、こうです。
「四月朔日、阿蘭陀の舶品川沖へ着す、使節高輪東禪寺に逗留す、蘭船江戸へ來るの始なり」
使節が江戸を発ったのは、五月の末のことでした。
同じ四月朔日のことを、『維新史料綱要』は、オランダの軍艦「バーリー」が品川に入り、六日に去った、と書いています。
この軍艦が使節を乗せていたかどうかは、どちらの記録にも書かれていません。
The chronicle's words are these:
"On the first day of the fourth month, a Dutch ship arrived off Shinagawa; the envoy stayed at Tozenji in Takanawa; this was the first time a Dutch ship came to Edo."
The envoy set out from Edo at the end of the fifth month.
For the same first day of the fourth month, the Ishin Shiryo Koyo records that a Dutch warship, whose name it writes as "Bārī," entered Shinagawa, and left on the sixth.
Neither record says whether this warship carried the envoy.
