After the Ertugrul went down, one ship carried the survivors on Oshima to Kobe.
It was the German gunboat Wolf.
An English-language newspaper in Kobe at the time wrote about those few days.

The German acting consul told the captain of the Wolf that the Ertugrul had gone down.
It was decided at once that the captain would go to help.
Governor Hayashi thanked the German officials for their kindness, the article says.
The Wolf set out for Oshima with a Turkish interpreter and a Japanese official on board.
Reaching Oshima the next morning, she at once landed her doctor and an officer.
There were three Japanese doctors on the island, but they did not have enough instruments.
The Wolf's doctor dressed the worst wounds.
The survivors were staying in a temple and in tea houses.
The Japanese had given them food, clothes and lodging.
They said they had been treated very kindly, the article writes.
It also writes that the Japanese had buried the dead, each in a wooden coffin.
The paper heard that Captain Credner wished to give the dead naval honours.
But the sea was too rough to land his men.
The Wolf left Oshima with 65 survivors on board and reached Kobe.
Counting those left in Kobe and on Oshima, the article says, 69 were saved in all.

H.I.G.M.’s gunboat Wolf arrived here, says the Hyogo News of the 22nd inst., yesterday morning at six o’clock from Oshima, bringing 65 survivors from the wreck of the Ertougroul.
when the bad news was officially communicated by the German Acting Consul to the Captain of the Wolf on Friday morning that the Ertougroul had foundered, it was at once decided that the commander of the Wolf should proceed to render any assistance he could, and on Governor Hayashi calling on him on a previously arranged official visit he informed the Governor of that decision, and the Governor at once expressed his sense of the German officials’ kindness.
There were already three Japanese doctors on the spot, but they were insufficiently provided with instruments. The presence of the Wolf doctor was a godsend, therefore, and he promptly dressed the worst wounds.
The men were being housed in a temple and tea houses, and said they had been very kindly treated by the Japanese, who had furnished them with food, clothes, and lodging.
Some 65 bodies had already been buried by the Japanese, each body being placed in a wooden coffin, and there were about 25 more awaiting burial.
With the two survivors in Kobe, the two left at Oshima, and the 65 on board the Wolf, the total number saved is 69.
It was the wish of Captain Credner, we hear, to accord naval honours to the dead, and he steamed round to that portion of the island where they lay, but it was too rough for him to land a firing party.
The Wolf left Oshima for Kobe at 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon and reached here yesterday morning at 6 o’clock.
Having taken on board coal, provisions, a Turkish interpreter, and a Japanese official in case of any difficulty arising in the matter of landing outside Treaty limits, the Wolf steamed out at four in the afternoon in order to reach Oshima by daylight next day.／The Wolf reached Oshima next morning about six o’clock, and the doctor and an officer were at once sent on shore.
